Business Program

Overview: Wolf Creek Job Corps' Business Program is designed to prepare students for entry-level office positions. There are three components to the program: Foundations Course, Office Assistant and Word Processor.

In the Foundations Course students study Math, Business English, Office Procedures, Keyboarding, 10 Key Calculator, Personal Computer, Windows Operating System, Word Processing software, and career opportunities.

In the Office Assistant program students study Business English, office procedures, filing systems, keyboarding, windows operating system, word processing software, spreadsheet software, internet, 10-Key calculator skills, and record keeping. All students are involved in a work based learning opportunity as the receptionist in the Wolf Creek administrative office.

In the Word Processor program students study Business English, keyboarding, windows operating system, word processing software, internet, spreadsheet software, database software, and presentation software. There is an optional opportunity to prepare for and take the Microsoft Word 2000 Core Certification Examination.

Software taught in the Business Program includes Windows 98, 2000 and XP, Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. Students also have the opportunity to learn Corel Photo Paint, Printhouse and Microtype Multi Media, a typing skills building program.

Instructor: Sheryl Davis is the Business Program Instructor. Ms. Davis holds an AS degree in computer programming. She has worked for Job Corps for 20 years, ten years as a GED instructor and 10 years teaching business and computer technology.

TARS: TARS, training achievement records, are used to track a student's completion of the specific skills needed to demonstrate proficiency in the duties and tasks used in an area of competency. This is an open entry and exit program where students progress at an individual pace.

Enrollment: There may be up to 30 students enrolled in the Business Program.

Tools: Students used personal computers and printers. Students are tested through the Office Proficiency Assessment and Certification (OPAC) system.
