Overview: The Nursing Assistant program offers Wolf Creek Job Corps students the opportunity to be co-enrolled at Umpqua Community College and Wolf Creek Job Corps.

The students reside at Wolf Creek and are bussed to and from the college for classes. Wolf Creek Job Corps pays for the tuition, books and tools necessary to participate in the program.

The Nursing Assistant program offered at Umpqua Community College is a stand alone program and does not require the applicant to enroll in additional coursework unless indicated by the results of the college placement exam.

This 150 hour training course is designed to provide basic nursing skills for employment as a Certified Nursing Assistant once a student has successfully passed the Certified Nurses Assistant written and practical examination administered by the Oregon State Board of Nursing. UCC's course consists of 75 hours of classroom instruction, followed by 75 hours of supervised clinical instruction. All applicants are required by Senior and Disabled Services Division to undergo a criminal background check in order to participate in the supervised clinical instruction portion of the course. Conviction of a felony and/or drug use or distribution may result in the Oregon State Board of Nursing withdrawing the privilege of writing the Certified Nursing Assistant examination.

Attendance at every class and clinical session is required. This is a requirement of the State Board of Nursing, and neither the instructor nor the Program Director can waive this requirement.

The ability to read and understand English at a tenth grade level of competency is important for success in the course. All students are required to have a TB screening test and must provide an official written report of this to the instructor at the first class meeting. Students born after 1956 must also provide, prior to first class meeting, official written proof of immunity against measles (rubella and rubeola).

Entrance Requirements: The applicant must be at least 16 years of age. He/she must also score a minimum of points indicated on each of Umpqua Community College's placement tests (Reading Asset Test = 30, Compass Test = 60; Writing Asset Test = 30, Compass Test = 31; Math Asset Test = 30, Compass Test = 21). The applicant must pass the criminal history clearance as required by the Department of Human Services, Senior And Disabled Services Division.
